Long, Solitary Drive through Nevada

When we left the Hagerman RV Village this morning it was just beginning to rain.  It rained on and off most of the morning.  We drove through the Snake River Canyon along US 30.  A number of natural springs gush from canyon walls and run down into the river below.  There are several Hot Springs also, but they are all closed for the winter.  It was still raining when we entered Nevada passing through the town of Jackpot.  The next town is Wells, Nevada and it is a good hours drive.  It's a good place to get fuel.  It's a long, solitary, 140 miles from Wells to Ely.  The closer we got to Ely the colder it got and the wind picked up. We had reservations at KOA Ely and arrived at 2:30 and got parked.  We went into Ely and stopped at the Nevada Northern Railway Museum.  The museum was interesting, but it was so cold and raining to do much walking around the depot outside.  We then went downtown  to the Historic Hotel Nevada and Gambling Hall.  When the 6 story Hotel Nevada opened in 1929 it was the tallest building in the state of Nevada and the first fire-proof building.  Rooms rented for $1.50 and all had private toilets and many with private bath.  The Gambling Hall still has some of the old slot machines.  About an hour after we got back to the trailer the wind picked up and it started SNOWING.  The low tonight is suppose to be 28 degrees.  We were to go to Las Vegas tomorrow, but don't know if we'll be able to go.  We may need to stay here another night.  We have a 7, 722 ft Connors Pass to cross so depends on the roads tomorrow.
