Taos, New Mexico

We arrived in Taos, New Mexico Thursday afternoon, 13 Oct.  We had reservations to stay at the Monte Bello RV Park, on US Hwy 64 W El Prado, New Mexico.  We stopped in Taos to visit our daughter in law, Gennie's Mom, Bonnie.  The RV Park is only about 4 miles from Bonnie's house.  The RV Park is located on 5 acres of open space, sits on the high-desert mesa at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.  On Saturday afternoon we rode up to Angel Fire to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park. It was the first major Vietnam memorial in the United States.  It is currently the only state park dedicated exclusively to veterans of the Vietnam War.  The memorial was begun by the parents of Marine 1st Lt. David Westphall who was killed in an ambush in 1968 in Vietnam.  There is a wonderful Visitor Center featuring photographs, a media room, and a Veteran's Room honoring the military personnel killed or missing in action.  There is a chapel that is open 24 hours a day.   If you are ever in Taos be sure to put this on your places to visit.  You won't be sorry.  We enjoyed our visit to Taos and especially spending time with Bonnie.  We now will be heading for Chanute, Kansas to see where and how our 5th wheel was built.
