Dodge City, Kansas

We left Taos yesterday morning and spent the night in La Junta, Colorado.  Today we drove to Dodge City, Kansas.  This is our first trip to Kansas.  Very flat, windy, lots of cattle in feedlots and grain storage elevators.  I haven't seen Dorothy yet!  We are staying at Gunsmoke Trav-L-Park and we are parked on DOC'S BLVD.  We went into Dodge City to the Boot Hill Museum.  The Museum sits on the original site of the Boot Hill Cemetery.  The complex covers a 2 city block area.  They have an extensive collection of artifacts, lots of photos, a General Store and the Long Branch Saloon.  It was an interesting museum.

The Fort Dodge Jail dates back to 1865
The Boot Hill Cemetery was closed in 1879.  It was never an
official buriel ground, but used primarily for the bodies of buffalo
hunters, drifters, and others who had no family in area.  No one
famous was ever buried here.
 An Ancestor????

The Long Branch Saloon was made famous by the television series "Gunsmoke"
