Vandenberg AFB & Pea Soup

We have been at the FamCamp on Vandenberg Air Force Base for the last 3 days.  Vandenberg Air Force Base is part of the Air Force Space Command and is about 9 miles from Lompoc, California.  Yesterday we drove to Buellton for lunch at the "Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurant."  We had some delicious Split Pea Soup for lunch.  They have been serving Split Pea Soup for more than 85 years.
This afternoon we rode to the Wall Beach on Vandenberg AFB.  They have several miles of beach on the base.  It was very windy this afternoon so didn't stay on the beach very long.  Tomorrow we will be leaving Vandenberg and plan to spend a few days near Santa Cruz.

SEABEE MUSEUM - Port Hueneme

While we were at Port Hueneme we toured the Seabee Museum.  It was very interesting.  We didn't know a lot about the Navy Seabees before we toured the museum.

Camp Comfort, Ojai, California

We had a nice visit with my uncle, cousins and their families.  On Sunday we had a family picnic at Camp Comfort in Ojai, California.  It was a beautiful day and brought back some wonderful memories.  My grandma loved to go on picnics and she took us to Camp Comfort every time we visited her in Ojai.  Camp Comfort is about a mile out of Ojai and dates back to early 1900's.  It is in the middle of an oak grove and has a creek that runs through the park.  Uncle Paul, Aunt Darleen, Cousins Gary and wife Linda, Peggy Ann and husband Jim, Ray and I met at Camp Comfort.  Paul BBQ'd sweet Italian sausage, beef brisket, and chicken, Gary brought a pot of grandma's beans, Peggy brought grandma's potato salad and we brought dessert.  We always have a nice time when we stop to see Paul and Darleen.

Point Mugu & Port Hueneme RV Parks

We have enjoyed our stay in the Ventura, California area.  We arrived at the Point Mugu Recreation Area on Friday 20 April. Point Mugu is a Naval Air Station/Ventura County Naval Base. The RV Park is about 30 feet from the Pacific Ocean.  You can hear the surf hit the beach and makes for good sleeping.  Besides the RV Park there is also a Beach Motel.  On Saturday evening the power went out in the park, motel and half the base.  It was still out on Monday morning and they didn't know when it would be restored so we decided we needed to move.  We don't have a generator and we didn't want our batteries to run down.  There is another Navy Base about 7 miles from Point Mugu, Port Hueneme that has a RV Park.  Ray called and they said they had some open sites so we moved to the Fairway RV Resort on Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center (Seabee's).  It is a really nice park beside the golf course.

Lodi, California WARE rally

Our Escapees rally (WARE) at the Lodi Grape Festival Fairgrounds in Lodi, California ended today.  We had 191 rigs, about 380 people at the 4 day rally.  A nice turnout for the first Western Area Rally for Escapees.  We had 17 people from our Escapees Chapter attending.  We all had a good time.  We had 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, tour of the Woodbridge Winery in Lodi, tour of California State Capital in Sacramento and a $4.00 lunch buffet at the Jackson Rancheria Casino in Jackson, California, entertainment every night and games in the evening.  There was a lot to keep us busy.  Our Chapter did breakfast on Wednesday morning with chapter 37 from Oregon.  They did pancakes and sausage and we did scrambled eggs and orange juice....scrambled 63 dozen eggs and poured 11 gallons of orange juice.
This morning we had our trailer and 5th wheel weighed before we left.  We are doing good with our new 5th wheel, not overweight.  We are now on our way to Point Mugu Naval Air Station FamCamp for 5 days.  We will be visiting family in the Oxnard/Ventura area.  The weather has been beautiful, and looks like it will stay warm for next few days.
