Escapade

Our longest trip this summer was 22 Aug-14 Sep to Gillette, Wyoming to attend an Escapade and then to Salt Lake City, Utah to do some genealogy work at the Family History Library.  At the Escapees Escapade we attended the RV Bootcamp and learned what we are doing right and some things we can improve on.  We were able to attend a few seminars, did some shopping, saw some old friends and made a few new ones. Ray joined the Elks Lodge and we had our truck and 5th wheel weighed. It was a great week.  Sandy belongs to an Escapees genealogy group called the SKP Genies and they had a 5 day Rally in Salt Lake City.  We spent everyday at the library looking at microfilm, books and on the computer.  Every afternoon we walked over to Temple Square for lunch at the cafeteria in the Office Building. On Saturday the cafeteria was closed so we had lunch at the Lion House Pantry Restaurant, the historic home of Brigham Young.  The weather was beautiful so was a nice walk everyday.  On the drive from Gillette, WY to Salt Lake City, UT we stopped for a day in Casper and 2 days at Hill AFB FamCamp in Ogden, Utah. We had a good trip back to Washington

All the Escapade events, seminars & venders were held in the Wyoming Center

Thousands who traveled the Oregon, California and Mormon Trails passed through Casper and stopped at the Independence  Rock.  The emigrants stopped and carved their names and dates into the rock.

Lion House was built in 1855-1856 as a residence for Brigham Young and his family.  It now houses the Lion House Pantry Restauant.
