Day 9 - Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

Tues, January 22, 2013 we docked in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica at 6:30am.  The ship docks right downtown so you are able to walk into town if you would like.  Puerto Limon is a port city the at one time was the main shipping port for the banana trade.  Most of the trade has moved to another port, but the port still has a number of cargo ships in port.  The city received heavy damage from an earthquake in 1991 and has never really recovered.  There was a large craft market near the port selling a lot of handmade items.  It was very hot and humid, so we didn't walk too far.  Puerto Limon is tropical so is hot the year round.  This was our last port stop.  We sailed for Ft Lauderdale at 4:00pm.  About 5:30pm the Captain made an announcement that he was turning the ship around and going back to Puerto Limon.  There was a passenger that needed to be transferred to hospital for medical care.  He said as soon as the passenger was transferred off ship we would sail for Ft Lauderdale.  He would be increasing the speed of ship so we would arrive in Ft Lauderdale on schedule.  We arrived in Puerto Limon about 8:00pm and passenger was transferred to ambulance and taken to large hospital in San Jose, Costa Rica.  We received an update the next day that the lady was in stable condition.
We have only two days left and they were sea days.
